Bertrix is a municipality of Belgium in the Ardennes in the Luxembourg province. It is located in the transition zone between the Ardennes and the Gaume. The inhabitants of Bertrix, numbering around 8,000, are known for their stubbornness and are nicknamed The Baudets. The landscape of the north and east of the town is hilly with large meadows and looks like the French Lorraine. In the South and West, in the Semois valley at Cugnon, the landscape is more rugged with deep valleys and high hills covered with forests. The village of Bertrix is not very touristy, unlike the valley of the Semois and the village of Cugnon.

Bertrix
Bertrix, with 6,000 inhabitants, is the most important locality in the municipality. There is the town hall, the local tourist office and shops for daily needs. The North of Bertrix is a large military site, with the NATO air base at Jéhonville.
Cugnon and the Semois valley
The village of Cugnon is located in the valley of the Semois. In this part of the town, we also find Mortehan and Auby-sur-Semois. The valley is known for its many meanders and the area is very suitable for mountain biking. Traditionally, Cugnon is attributed a monastery probably founded by King Sigebert III of Austrasia in 648 and led by Saint Remacle, apostle of the Ardennes. It is certain that there are several historic religious buildings in Cugnon. Cugnon is also the original village of Hubert Pierlot, the 32e Prime Minister of Belgium, head of the Belgian government in exile in London between 1939-1945.
