background

Granite mining in earlier times

The almost 4.5 square meter island has around 250 permanent residents. In the summer season the population then rises to over 3,000 people.

The island of Bohus-Malmön consists of the special pink Bohus granite. Remnants of stone carving can be found all over the island. The largest former quarries are on the west side of the island.

In spring, sea carnations, snowballs, wild pansies, honeysuckle and blackthorn bloom in the fissures between the granite cliffs. In autumn and winter you can see the surging sea and in a storm the spray roll over the rocks and feel the forces of nature. The main season, however, is the summer months from June, when the sun warms the rocks.
