Background

Burgos Castle
Burgos Forest

The territory has been occupied by man since prehistoric times and was a center of the Nuragic age.

During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres and was part of the curatoria of the Goceano, also known as of Anela. It was a very important center, protected by a castle built in 1129 by the judge Gonario II of Torres. During the war between the judge of Torres Costantino II and the judge of Cagliari Guglielmo di Massa (XII century) the castle was conquered by the latter, who made Prunisinda, wife of Constantine, prisoner. The castle subsequently returned under the power of Constantine, and in the 13th century the Giudicessa Adelasia (last sovereign of the Giudicato of Torres) resided there after her unhappy marriage with King Enzo, son of Frederick II of Swabia. A few years after the death of Adelasia (1259) the castle and the village passed under the dominion first of the Doria and then of the Giudicato of Arborea. Throughout the course of the war between Arborea and Aragona (XIV century) the castle and the village remained an arborense stronghold. In 1410 it passed to the Marquis of Oristano Leonardo Cubello, count of Goceano, together with the other villas of the old curatoria. In 1478, with the war between the Aragonese viceroy Carroz and the Marquis of Oristano Leonardo Alagon, Burgos with its castle became a bulwark of the latter. After the defeat of the Alagon in 1479, it passed to the Aragonese, entrusted to Captain Angelo Marongiu of Sassari. Burgos remained incorporated in the county of Goceano, and was redeemed from the last feudal lords in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
