Cala Figuera is a fishing village on Mallorca. It belongs to the church Santanyi in the region Migjorn.
background
The fishing village is located on the eponymous bay of Cala Figuera, which means something like "Fig Bay", and this name is explained by the population of fig trees that grow around the bay. The bay extends with two arms into the hinterland, in both arms fishing boats but also boats and yachts of people who have established their second residence here.

In the 1970s, the village flourished as a tourist destination. Numerous hotels were built, including some building sins. Tourism then subsided in the 1990s. More modern hotels near the beach had become more interesting. Slowly the decision was made to switch to gentler tourism. Some hotels were demolished, some are still empty today as ruins, but are also to be dismantled. Instead, they opt for apartments with a very high standard.
The fishing port is still in operation today, as if it hadn't noticed the wave of tourism. Even if the Mediterranean is already very empty here, the fishermen at the port do their work and you can watch them. If there is a beautiful fishing village in Mallorca, it is definitely Cala Figuera.

By plane
The nearest airport is that Palma de Mallorca Airport(IATA: PMI). It takes 45 minutes from the airport to Cala Figuera. It's about 60 kilometers.
In the street
From Palma you drive on the motorway MA-19which then at Llucmajor to Budesstrasse of the same name continues over Campos to Santanyí. From here it continues over the MA-6102 to Cala Figuera. If you come from the north you drive from Manacor from over the MA-14 South over Felanitx to Santanyí.
By boat
There is a port here, but there are no regular boat connections. You can go here with your boat and anchor here.
mobility

For people who are not good on foot, Cala Figuera is a challenge. The paths are quite steep and sometimes bumpy. Especially if you want to go down to the port area, you should already have sturdy shoes on and you should be a little careful.
Cala Figuera is connected to the Mallocini bus network. Even if this is not so comfortable, it offers an inexpensive way to get to Palma de Mallorca or to Felanitx, Clomos or Santandyí. You should definitely keep an eye on the timetable, as it can be expensive by taxi. The bus connections are designed according to the needs of the locals. One should know that. An air-conditioned bus is not always to be expected either.
Parking spaces are in short supply in Cala Figuera. Once you've found one, it's best to grab it right away. The best way to arrive by car is anticyclical, because in the morning and in the morning, many coaches with round-trip travelers also drive to Cala Figuera.
Tourist Attractions

You should definitely take a closer look at the fishing port, even if it is quite difficult to get here at all. Here the fishing boats are actually still in the harbor or are housed behind gates in a kind of garage. Here you can still see fishermen mending the nets and preparing for the next catch.
There are many places where you have excellent views and you can take incredibly beautiful photos. Even if you don't take photos, it is definitely worthwhile to linger here and enjoy the view.
activities
The rocky coast offers hardly any bathing opportunities, one is primarily dependent on the swimming pools of the hotels. A few meters to the right of the terrace of the Hotel Villa Sirena you can enter the sea via a small ladder, but there are often clear waves so that bathing fun does not seem entirely risk-free and is only recommended for very good swimmers.
A hiking trail leads around the bay through the harbor to the lighthouse opposite. Beyond the harbor, the route climbs a short distance very steeply and then leads relatively uneventfully to the beautifully situated tower with its great view. Caution is advised in the harbor because the natural stone or concrete surface is very slippery when wet.
In the other direction from the Hotel Villa Sirena (entrance next to the terrace, see above photo “View of the bay”) a hiking trail leads over the cliffs to Cala Santanyi. While the route is marked on display boards in Cala Figuera, there are no signs along the way, and no signs can be found in Cala Santanyi. It is advisable to walk the distance as far as you can safely identify and then turn around.
shop

There is a nice shop where an artist sells his self-made works of art. This goes from a simple postcard to very expensive items. The shop is known nationwide and the artist runs the shop himself. Here you can find a completely different souvenir than you know otherwise on Mallorca. The store is warmly recommended to everyone.
kitchen
Certainly the cuisine in Cala Figuera is also based on the tourists. But first of all it is more upscale, even if you can get a snack here and there. There is also a lot of fish on the menu, which is not so common in Mallorca, but you can at least expect it from a fishing village. Definitely a good tip to look for good food here rather than trying the tourist spots.
nightlife
![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e8/Hotel_in_Cala_Figuera.jpg/200px-Hotel_in_Cala_Figuera.jpg)
People like to sit together in the evening in the restaurant or bar and chat about the day. There is no real night life. You like it more quiet and that's how it should be.
accommodation
There are all kinds of hotels that offer rooms and swimming pools. They are all rated above average. They are small, often only offer bed and breakfast, but half-board is also available. Fortunately, one looks in vain for large hotel castles. In contrast, the proportion of high-quality holiday homes is growing steadily. The number of people who have created a second residence here is growing.
security
Of course you have to follow the usual rules in Cala Figuera, but otherwise you don't have any problems with safety here.

Practical advice
![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/53/In_Cala_Figuera.jpg/300px-In_Cala_Figuera.jpg)
The place is a bit tricky, which is mainly due to the location on the coast with the high rocks. The two foothills of the bay are also a bit confusing. But once you get it, it's all pretty easy and good to do.

At Swiss Post, too, everything is OK, a postcard from here doesn't need more than a few days. In addition, you can get special postcards here (see: "Shopping"). It is possible to send them from here without any problems. All common cellular networks also work in Cala Figuera. If you do need a payphone, you have to look for it, I didn't see one, but I didn't look for it either. There are about 10 telephone booths in the village
trips
If you have chosen Cala Figuera as the starting point for your vacation, you have an incredible number of opportunities to get to know the southeast of the island of Mallorca from here. A day to Palma de Mallorca is a must. Then you should visit the places Felanitx, Santanyí (weekly market worth seeing on Wednesday and Saturday mornings) and Campos to breathe the Mallorcan air of life. Those who prefer sun, water and the beach will be drawn to the It Trenc. Here you can enjoy pure sea, beach and sun.
