Walk
Because the sidewalk doubles as a motorbike parking lot, caution and awareness are a must when passing unfamiliar areas off the main street. In general, it's best to walk between motorbike parking lots and in front of shops, rather than parked motorbikes and the road. Pedestrians should be especially careful when crossing a road because cars and motorcycles often run red lights. It is recommended to explore Kaohsiung on foot as many attractions are not far apart.
The subway
Kaohsiung's subway line is long delayed and opened in 2008, with two lines. The Red Line extends from north to south, providing a convenient route from both Zuoying THSR station and the airport into the city center, while the Orange Line runs throughout the city from the port of Kaohsiung in the west to the region. eastern suburbs of Daliao. The subway line is very clean and provides a convenient way to quickly navigate the city. However as the metro line is quite young the network is still not very dense and usually you have to walk several minutes to the next station. Metro operations stop around 23:30 for the Orange Line and until the end of 12:30 for the Red Line. Ask at the information desk to be sure.
