Cayman Brac is a minor island of the group of Cayman

To know

The word Brac, from which the island takes its name, is nothing more than the term used in the Gaelic language to indicate the limestone relief (in English: The Bluff) located in the center of the island that crosses it almost for its entire length.

The particularity of the area is the major tourist attraction, its natural conformation allows you to make numerous excursions to observe the local fauna and flora.

Geographical notes

Cayman Brac is located in the Caribbean Sea approximately 143 km northeast of Grand Cayman, is about 19 km long with an average width of 2 km.

Background

The island was sighted, along with Little Cayman, by Christopher Columbus in 1503. In the following years it became one of the favorite landing points for privateers and pirates thanks to the presence of fresh water and the rich fauna from which food could be obtained for the crews.

Culture and traditions

The processing of the local stone (called Caymanite) by artisans is developed.

There is no ferry service. Private boats depart from Grand Cayman.
