background

City coat of arms

Mineral water was used therapeutically as early as the 18th century. A sales company was founded in the middle of the 19th century, and around 1900 a number of buildings in the style of the Belle Époque.

The city's coat of arms dates from 1927 and refers to the thermal springs. The wave symbolizes the water. The eagle in the top half refers to Stanislaus I. Leszczyński, Duke of Lorraine and (temporarily) King of Poland. The lion with the sword is reminiscent of the Persian Shah Mozaffar ad-Din Shahwho visited the thermal bath in 1900, 1902 and 1905.
