The Green road(French Route Verte) is a holiday route that is around 250 km in length from Lorraine through the Vosges, the Alsace, the Breisgau and the Southern Black Forest until after Donaueschingen leads. There is also a bike tour variant available in Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest ends.
background
As early as 1960, the Green Street was launched as one of the first cross-border holiday routes. At that time, one of the main reasons was the deepening of Franco-German friendship. One of the initiators was the then Lord Mayor Joseph Rey from Colmarwho was initially a German soldier in World War I and later had to fight for the French. In the meantime, the focus has shifted: the Green Street shows the beauty of nature to the left and right of the Rhine, the common cultural heritage and, last but not least, the specialties and peculiarities of the respective gastronomy.
Regions
In France the road runs as Route Verde through the departments Vosges and Haut-Rhin, then crosses the Rhine and continues through South Baden, over the Southern Black Forest to the headwaters of the Danube. The following municipalities are members of the Green Street:
particularities
17 municipalities along the route are currently part of Grünen Strasse. The route can be traveled by car, with the number of stages at your discretion. There is also a variant for cyclists, GPS track see under web links.
traffic
On the variant for cars, you usually drive on main roads, the track for cyclists usually goes over bike paths.
Route
The order of the stages is arbitrary, here it goes from west to east, on the homepage of the street it uses the opposite direction. The size of the stages should also be adapted to personal needs; for cyclists, the uphill and downhill stretches in the Black Forest and in the Vosges should be observed.
