On the train
- 1 Estación de Córdoba Central, Glorieta de las Tres Culturas, ☎ 34 902 432 343. Modern station on Avenida de America, equipped with various services such as luggage storage, wi-fi and a tourist information office with hotel reservations.
The station is served by RENFE high-speed trains from Madrid-Atocha, Barcelona (5 hours) which continue to Seville (45 minutes) or rum raisin (50 minutes).
By bus
- 2 Estación de Autobuses de Córdoba, Avenida de la Libertad (next to the train station), ☎ 34 957 40 40 40, @[email protected]. Regular rides to any destination in theAndalusia and of Spain. About 68 bus lines operate there (Carrera, Alsa, Rafael Ramírez, Secorbus, Socibus, Autotransportes Lopez, Unionbus and Linesur). From Madrid-Estación Sur depart more than 6 buses a day of the bus lines ALSA is Socibus. The construction of the bus station is the work of the architect César Portela, winner of the National Prize for Architecture in 1999. The station is adorned with several sculptures by Agostino Ibarrola and Sergio Portela. Inside there are archaeological finds of considerable interest, especially from the Roman era.

- 1 Mezquita-catedral de Córdoba. rectangular in shape and surrounded by a high wall, currently the Cathedral of Cordoba, it is the most important Muslim monument in Spain. Its construction began in 785 AD. under the reign of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān I above the plan of the Basilica of San Vincenzo, then enlarged by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān II and transformed by San Ferdinando III in 1236 into a Cathedral, with the addition of a monumental bell tower. The original union of the architectural and artistic structure typical of the Mosque with that of the Cathedral, without solutions of continuity, generates a strange and impressive architectural effect, which has made it famous all over the world. It appears on the coin of the 2 €.
- 2 Roman bridge (Puente Romano). Built by the Romans in the early 1st century BC, perhaps to replace a previous one in wood, it was the only city bridge for two millennia. Restored and renovated several times, today it has 16 arches, is 247 meters long and about 9 meters wide. It has been pedestrian only since 2004.
- 3 Museum of Andalusian life (Vivo de Al-Andalus Museum), Calle Puente Romano, ☎ 34 957 293 929. Adults € 4.50, children € 3. October-April 10: 00-18: 00, May-September 10: 00-14: 00 and 16: 30-20: 30. Historical museum set up in the Torre de la Calahorra which was once the fortified access to the city.
- 4 Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, Calle Caballerizas Reales. Adults € 4.50, students € 2.25. Tue-Fri 8: 30-19: 30, Sat 9: 30-16: 30, Sun 9: 30-14: 30. The Caliph's residence built in the 8th century on the site of a Roman and Visigothic fortress. The kings Isabella and Ferdinando stayed in the Alcazar shortly after the capture of the city, after which it became the seat of the courts of the holy inquisition. Its main attraction is the lush gardens.
- Calle de las Flores. A very touristy street with the most beautiful views of the Mezquita bell tower.
- 5 Synagogue, Calle Judíos. Tue-Sat 10: 00-14: 00 and 15: 30-17: 30, Sun and holidays 10: 00-14: 00. One of the few synagogues in Spain that have not been transformed into churches. The Synagogue of Cordoba dates back to 1315 and consists of a small prayer hall admirable for its elaborately decorated ceilings, in the purest Moorish style.
- 6 Casa de Sefarad.
- City walls.
- Plaza del Potro. A small square that was the backdrop to one of Don Quixote's adventures. In the center is a beautiful fountain with a sculptural group depicting the triumph of San Rafael '. The Julio Romero de Torres museum, a local painter, also overlooks the square.
- 7 Capilla de San Bartolomé, Calle Averroes, ☎ 34 957 78 76 44. € 2 (Sat, Sun and holidays), € 1.50 (Mon-Fri). 15 September - 14 June: Tue-Sat 10: 30-13: 30, 15: 30-18: 30; Sun 10: 30-13: 30; Mon 15: 30-18: 30;. 15th century chapel with beautiful mosaic vaults in a mixed Gothic-Moorish style. Its administration is entrusted to the University of Cordoba.
- 8 Albolafia water mill. Free. A mill with a gigantic wheel, rear reconstruction of an original from the Moorish era.
- 9 Roman Templo, Calle Claudio Marcelo. Ruins of a Roman temple from the 1st century AD Many sculptural fragments have been transferred to the local archaeological museum.
- 10 [link not working]Arqueológico Museum, Plaza Jerónimo Páez, 7, ☎ 34 957 35 55 17. Free admission. 16 September-15 June: Tue-Sat 09: 00-19: 30 Sun and holidays 09: 00-15: 30; June 16-September 15: Tue-Sat 09: 00-15: 30; Closed Mon. Small museum with collections from the prehistoric, Roman Islamic and medieval periods. The museum was built on the site of the Roman amphitheater whose ruins are partially visible.
- Calleja del Pañuelo, Calleja del Pañuelo. Picturesque alley of only 72 cm wide that flows into an equally picturesque Moorish-style square with a fountain in its center. Much photographed by passing tourists.
Events and parties
- Carnival. More and more spectators at the Carnaval de Córdoba starting with the traditional Gala of the Sultán y la Sultana which takes place on the Bulevar del Gran Capitán, at the height of the Gran Teatro.
- Semana Santa. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, the streets of Cordoba are all a succession of processions that repeat the different stations of the Via Crucis. Cordoba has around 37 Easter brotherhoods.
- Batalla de las Flores. May. Procession of carriages with display of flowers, mostly gladioli. It takes place on May 1st and marks the opening of Cordoba in May.
- Las Cruces. May. Feast during which crosses from one to three meters high entirely covered with flowers are placed in various points of the center. Local dishes and drinks are offered.
- Courtyards Festival (Festival de los Patios). Party during which the participants open their courtyards, decorated with flowers and hedges, for free, so that they can be visited at the established times. It is such a characteristic festival that it was declared an Intangible World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2012. The festival is divided into two categories: ancient architecture and modern architecture. In recent years, up to 50 patios have participated in the competition, which is complemented by an educational program organized by the municipality of Cordoba, to introduce students to the architecture of the city and encourage them to preserve it. The party ends with a vervain in Calle San Basilio, with music and dancing.
- Fiesta de la La Cata. May. Party during which the bodegas they compete to offer the best wine.
- Feria de Córdoba (Feria de Nuestra Señora de la Salud). The patronal feast that concludes May in Cordoba is also the most awaited: flamenco dances accompanied by symposiums and cheerful convivialities in the streets of the center
- La Noche Blanca of Flamenco. June.
- International Guitar Festival. July. For two weeks Cordova becomes the guitar capital of the world. Concerts held by established bands and soloists from Jazz, Blues, Classical Guitar and of course Flamenco.
