Crow is one of the Azores islands.

To know

Corvo, the smallest and most northerly of the Azores, is located north-east of the island of Flores from which it is separated by an arm of the sea of about 15 km.

The island measures 7 km in length and 4.5 in width (maximum dimensions). Its surface is 17.45 km², slightly less than those of Favignana (Egadi islands) is Caprera (Tuscan archipelago).

The northern part of Corvo is occupied by Monte Gordo, a volcano which is presumed extinct and which rises over 700 m a.s.l. The volcano has a large crater whose bottom is occupied by small lakes and lava formations.

The coasts of the island, high, steep and heavily eroded by marine and atmospheric agents, are devoid of inlets, making bathing difficult but also the landing of boats especially when the winds blow strong. The highest peak is the 1 Morro dos Homens which reaches 719 m.

Territories and tourist destinations

Urban centers

  • I bring from home - Sea port of Corvo.
  • 1 Vila Nova do Corvo - The only inhabited center of the island, Vila Nova is a picturesque village with alleys overlooked by white houses.

Other destinations

  • 1 Caldeirao - The crater of the Monte Gordo volcano is located in the north of the island and is quite large considering the small size of Corvo. Its circumference is in fact 3.4 km. The bottom of the crater hosts two lakes and various basaltic formations covered with vegetation. Caldeirao is Corvo's greatest natural attraction.
  • 2 Portinho da Areia - A small black sand beach, Portinho da Areia has the privilege of being located in a cove on the south-western side, sheltered from the winds. It therefore allows you to dive into the waters of the ocean, an activity that is impossible elsewhere. The beach is located at the end of the airport runway and has a campsite.
