The small town Coswig (Anhalt) lies on the right bank of the Elbe between Wittenberg and Dessau.

getting there

By train

The 1 Coswig railway station (Anhalt) is with regional trains over the route DessauFalkenberg (Elster) reachable. There are hourly connections to Dessau and Wittenberg. The next long-distance traffic stop is Wittenberg.

In the street

Coswig has a descent on the Motorway A 9 Berlin – Munich. There the driver changes to the B 187 from Rosslau to Lutherstadt Wittenberg. If you come from Berlin, you leave the autobahn at the exit Köselitz and changes to the B 107, which goes via Coswig Graefenhainichen on the Dübener Heide. Since the B 107 south of Coswig only bridged the Elbe with the help of a yaw ferry, the section between Coswig and Worlitz downgraded to a district road and the federal road on this section merged with the A 9, which runs further west.

By bicycle

It dates from the end of the 17th century and was converted into a prison in the 19th century. A memorial stone in the forecourt of the palace commemorates political prisoners imprisoned here during the Nazi era.

According to a city-historical legend, the house was acquired by the Prussian Crown Prince and later King Friedrich Wilhelm around 1780 and rebuilt for his beloved Wilhelmine Enck (Madam Rietz, Countess Liechtenau). The authorship of the stucco work is attributed to Giovanni Simonetti, who made the baptismal font in the St. Nicholas Church in Coswig in 1701.

The church “St. Nicolai "in its current form is from the 17th century and stands on the foundation walls of a monastery church of the Dominican convent from the 13th century, which was destroyed in the Schmalkaldic War in 1547. Luther preached here to the Anhalt princes, one of whom (Wolfgang von Anhalt -Köthen), to which Coswig belonged at the time, introduced the Reformation in its territory as early as 1526. Inside, a baptismal font, baroque gallery and choir stalls, Cranach epitaphs are well worth seeing.
