Curtea de Argeș is a city of Romania, located in the historical region of Muntenia.

To know

Curtea de Argeș was the first capital of the principality of Wallachia and preserves the most important Byzantine buildings of the Romania, including the Princely Church, a 14th-century monument on the UNESCO list of nominations.

An important political and economic center during the medieval era, Curtea de Argeș declined after the transfer of the residence of the voivada of Wallachia to Târgoviște.

Curtea de Argeș regained a certain prestige in the period between the two world wars with the designation of the monastery's cathedral as a royal necropolis.

The city is the starting point of the famous Transfăgărășan scenic road which climbs the Southern Carpathians ending at Sibiu, on the plateau of Transylvania
