Derbent or Derbend (in Russian, rutulo and avar Дербейнт, in lesga: Кьвевар, in Azerbaijani: Dərbənd; in lak: Чурул in Tatar Дэрбэнд and in Hebrew דארבּאנד) is a city of Russia in Autonomous Republic of Dagestan.
To know
Derbent is one of the most important cities in the Ciscaucasia and boasts of being one of the oldest cities in the world, the oldest in the whole Russia. The first nucleus of Derbent dates back to the late Bronze Age (about 5000 years BC).
The strength of Derbent is multiculturalism as its many names testify, almost all of which can be defined as "endonyms" because rather than being translations of the name into languages foreign to the city, they are the names with which each of the different ethnic groups present here call it .
When to go
Derbent is a Caucasian city and as such has a climate very similar to what a city in Southern Italy can be. Except for the fact that at the moment there are no particular events or reasons to go here, quite the opposite, Derbent offers the best of itself in the summer - autumn period when temperatures are mild enough not to allow the tourist to enjoy the city.

Background
Although Derbent has existed since millennia BC, written records of the foundation tell us about its port on the Caspian Sea and date back to the sixth century. BC, when Derbent has already become, from a village that it was, a city. The city we see today is the reconstruction of Derbent which also took place in ancient times, in 438 AD. by the Persians who gave it its name. Derbent in Persian it means "closed door" and indicated here the city enclosed between the mighty gates of its magnificent fortress, now a UNESCO protected site.
