no tourist info on Wikidata: Add tourist information

The small town Dippoldiswalde lies in the valley of the Rote Weißeritz in the lower Eastern Ore Mountains. Until the administrative reform in 2008 it was the district town of the Weißeritzkreis.

background

The town was probably built by Bohemian miners in the 10th century, soon gained importance due to the nearby mines and in 1363 received a city wall, remains of which are still preserved. Silver mining in Dippoldiswalde itself had been going on since the 12th century and extended into the 16th century. The mine workings from that time were only rediscovered and systematically researched in recent years. They give a rare impression of high medieval mining and are therefore part of the UNESCO World Heritage Ore Mountains Mining Region.
