Altenberg (Ore Mountains) - Altenberg (Erzgebirge)

Altenberg

The small town Altenberg is located in the upper Eastern Ore Mountains, not far from the border with the Czech Republic. The mining town is an important winter sports resort and is equipped, among other things, with a racing sledge and bobsleigh track.

getting there

Via Altenberg, the B 170 leads from Dresden to the German-Czech border crossing Tin forest. Since the end of 2006, however, the approach via the new A 17 has been much faster; you drive on the last exit before the Czech border (exit Bad Gottleuba) down and then over Lauenstein and Geising to Altenberg. Other travel options - even from the west and south of Germany are actually not worthwhile. Only whoever straight out Freiberg comes, should take the highway variant and over Frauenstein and Hermsdorf drive.

There is also a rail link from there Heidenau in the Elbe Valley. In winter, amplifier trains are used on this route for winter sports from Dresden.
