Heidenau is a Saxon city in Elbe valley basin. After the Elbe runs through the Saxon Switzerland winding and the city Pirna The next town is Heidenau. The city is southeast of Dresden. Here the tributary Müglitz flows into the Elbe.

Heidenau is connected to the city of Dresden's S-Bahn network. The S 1 (direction Bad Schandau) or the S 2 (direction Pirna) to Heidenau. Four to six trains run every hour. The city has three S-Bahn stations (1 Heidenau station, 2 Heidenau south and 3 Heidenau-Großsedlitz).
