Ditzingen is a city in Strohgäu.

background

Ditzingen, first mentioned in a document in 769, is located on the Glems, which for many years formed the border between Alamannen (Swabia) and Franconia. The border between two dioceses ran through the place, and therefore Ditzingen also had two parish churches: the Konstanzer Kirche, today a Protestant parish church, and the Speyrer Kirche, today a cemetery church.

In 1966 Ditzingen received city rights. During the municipal reform in 1971/1975, the formerly independent municipalities Heimerdingen, Hirschlanden and Schöckingen were incorporated into the new city, which has been a major district town since 1976.
