Because of the city is a small town in Heckengäu. The former Free Imperial City is around 30 km from the state capital Stuttgart away. It is known as the birthplace of the astronomer Johannes Kepler. The remains of the medieval city fortifications are worth seeing, as are the lively carnival customs and the museum of the fools' guild.

Because of the city is lying in Greater Stuttgart in the Heckengäu. The districts of Merklingen, Münklingen, Schafhausen and Hausen an der Würm belong to Weil der Stadt. Around half of the 19,000 inhabitants live in the city center.

Because the city has a busy guild of fools, the Fasnet is a colorful mixture of Swabian-Alemannic carnival and Rhenish carnival. The Narren Museum is owned by the Fools Guild AHA to chat. The highlight is the annual parade on Shrove Tuesday.
