The Dolomites, especially in their northern and western part, are intensely exploited for tourism. In particular, the valleys of the provinces of Trento and Bolzano and the upper part of the province of Belluno base their economy on the winter practice of alpine skiing. the Dolomiti Superski combines almost all ski resorts in the area with one pass. Cross-country skiing and ski mountaineering are more marginal, but in constant growth in recent decades, the continued creation of new ski clubs and new competitions (mainly at night) among which the “Dolomiti Sotto le Stelle” are to be mentioned.

Summer is rather the season for trekking and climbing throughout the region. The Dolomites have a long tradition of hiking and mountaineering. Almost all mountains have a marked ascent route for easy access. The Ferrate life are extremely widespread.

The High Routes of the Dolomites ( Alte Vie delle Dolomiti) are well-marked trails that allow you to make long journeys through stages lasting several days, always walking at altitude without ever descending to the valley floor. The two most famous Alte Vie are the Alta Via number 1 from Lake Braies to Belluno and theAlta Via number 2 from Bressanone to Feltre. Escalation due to its extreme variability and rapid evolution deserves a separate chapter.

The region offers to make excursions independently or better with specialized guides. In the Brenta Dolomites, the group of guides Arco Alpine can be contacted.

Eat

Typical dishes are polenta with mushrooms, game meat, peta or pitina, canederli, spätzli (spinach gnocchi), apple strudel.

In the restaurants on the ski slopes you can taste many varieties of fruit or herbal grappa, and hot drinks such as jagertee (rum tea), bombardino and calimero. Bombardino is a hot drink made from egg liqueur, brandy or rum, with the addition of whipped cream and cocoa powder, while calimero is made from egg liqueur, coffee and whipped cream.
