Route description with sights

Corner points of the route

From Toblach to San Candido, the route is still comparatively flat, it goes slightly downhill. It then falls down to about 650 m and then flattens out to Slovenia.

  • Dobbiaco (I)
  • Sillian - (A) - still at 1100 m above sea level. NN
  • High traffic on the Innichen-Lienz section:
There are many organized bike groups on the 42 km long section with a difference in altitude of 600 m. Most of them come from Italy. Since many of these day cyclists are untrained (in terms of cycling and fitness), accidents often occur (according to press releases on the Internet 09-2006).
For cyclists, it is therefore advisable to cover the corresponding section of the route in the early morning.
→ Connection to the Alpe Adria cycle path with parallel guidance to Villach.
  • Ferndorf
  • Feistritz
  • Villach
  • Völkermarkt - is located on the reservoir of the same name
  • There are steeper gradients in the cycle path below Völkermarkt. Between Ruden and Lavamünd z. Partly busy roads used. Obermitterdorf and Untermitterdorf belong to the municipality of Ruden and lie well above the Drau.
  • Lavamünd (A) - at 348 m above sea level NN the deepest place in Carinthia
  • In Slovenia the route runs on hilly back roads.
  • Dravograd
  • Maribor
  • Ormož - lies on the Drava, which forms the border with Croatia here. It is not known whether traces of the route can still be found here.

Note: If you are familiar with the route, remove the heading "Corner points of the route" and replace this section with a detailed route description with stages. It is best to simply work the place names into the stages. You can find instructions on how to do this here .

An example of a fully developed cycle route with stages is here to find.
