History

The most interesting facility in the park, the "Kamienna" hydroelectric power plant, was built in 1903 on the site of the former carbide factory. The construction of this facility is a very important point in the history of the park, due to the fact that the development of Głusk began from there. This town is now the seat of the forest inspectorate and one of the main tourist bases of the park. At the end of the interwar period, the region's system of fortifications of the Third Reich, known as the Pomeranian Wall, was established. One of the objects in this strip has been preserved in relatively good condition and can be visited, close to the stop at Lake Deaf.

The beginnings of nature protection in the region and the activities of foresters can be found at the end of the 1960s. At that time, specialists noticed the unusual microclimate of the region, they noticed flora and fauna rare for this part of Poland. In the years 1978-79, members of the Provincial Committee for Nature Conservation (WKOP) in Gorzów Wielkopolski, together with the League for Nature Conservation, submitted an application to establish the Drawieński National Park on the basis of the "Drawa" and "Radycin" reserves. Their activities began to be implemented administratively a little later, and in 1984 the park project was created, and in 1990 it was officially established.
