Gorzów Wielkopolski is located in the north-west of Poland. Historically, the city is located in the northern country of Lebus or the Neumark at the Warta. After the territorial fragmentation of Poland in the second half of the 12th century, Gorzów Wielkopolski belonged to the Greater Poland of the Greater Poland Piasts. The country Lebus came to the Brandenburgers by dowry around 1250 and the city was named in 1257 with German settlers Landisberch Nova in the newly created Neumark newly founded. The city was depopulated in the Thirty Years War. After 1648 Landsberg developed into an important trading center in trade with neighboring Poland-Lithuania. In 1871 the city came to the German Empire. During the Second World War, the building fabric of the city was almost completely destroyed and gradually rebuilt after the war. In 1945 the place came to Poland. Today Gorzów Wielkopolski is a vibrant university town and one of the two capitals of the Lubusz Voivodeship.

By train
