background
The area of the later Neumark was part of the emerging Polish state in the 10th century. After the division of Poland within the framework of the Seniorate Constitution of 1138, the Polish sub-area came into being Greater Poland and was ruled by the Wielkopolska Piast dynasty until the late 13th century, who rivaled the Pomeranian griffins for the border area. During this time the German East Settlement set in and the Piasts also brought numerous orders into the country, including the Cistercians and the Templars. The area came to the Brandenburgers piece by piece in the second half of the 13th century through inheritance, donation and purchase. At the beginning of the 15th century, the area came under the Teutonic Order in Prussia, but was lost again in the course of the Thirteen Years' War. In the second half of the 15th century, the now independent Neumark were further areas in the south on the Or awarded. At the end of the 16th century, however, it came back to Brandenburg and from the 18th century to Prussia. In 1945 the Neumark came to Poland.
