The Ennstal Alps are predominantly in the Upper Styria (Federal state Styria), only a small part of the subgroup of Hall walls located in Upper Austria.

The subgroups from northwest to southeast, highest peak in brackets:

  • Hall walls (Große Pyhrgas, 2,224 m), north of the Enns;
  • Gesäuse (Hochtor, 2,369 m), the mountains and the national park around the valley of the Enns;

  • Admont (640 m), gate to Gesäuse, Benedictine monastery with the largest monastery library in the world;
  • Johnsbach (853 m) in the Johnsbachtal, mountaineering and holiday village;
  • St. Gallen (513 m), market town with Gallenstein Castle;
  • Hieflau (803 m), at the eastern outlet of the Enns, Köhlerzentrum (Montanmuseum);
