Fjällbacka is a small, picturesque fishing village in Bohuslan. Ingrid Bergman's preference for the island of Danholmen in front of Fjällbacka, Camilla Läckberg's crime novels and the film adaptation of Astrid Lindgrens Ronja the robber's daughter, which partly takes place in the Kungsklyftan Gorge, made the place known to a wide audience. But even without all these famous women, Fjällbacka is a small but extremely popular holiday destination on the Swedish west coast.

background

Despite its small size, Fjällbacka is one of the most famous holiday resorts on the Swedish west coast, in the small narrow streets down to the harbor in summer the tourists and lines of cars push their way through the place. The houses are located around the harbor bay, Bryggen and partly directly on the steep cliffs of the Vetteberget, from whose rock plateau you can see far over the offshore islands.

Ingrid Bergman was one of Fjällbacka's most famous holidaymakers, she traveled regularly to the island of Danholmen off the coast. The central square at the harbor was named after her after her death.

The crime novels by the Swedish author, who was born in Fjällbacka Camilla Läckberg play in place, Erica Falck and Patrik Hedström have been tirelessly investigating around Fjällbacka since 2002.

For the filming of Ronja the robber's daughter, one of the later children's novels by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, was the location of the Kungsklyftan, which divides the local mountain Vetteberget into two unequal parts Wolfsklamm, access to Mattisburg selected. The film was shot in 1984, but the Kungsklyftan hasn't changed much to this day.

getting there

By plane

The closest airport is the Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (approx. 150 km south). Also the Oslo Airport Gardermoen, about 230 km north in the neighboring country Norway, may be suitable for the journey, but only if you then continue your journey by (rental) car. A connection with public transport would be extremely time consuming.

By train

The next rail connection is in Tanum.

Tanum and the Dingle station to the south of it are on the railway line (Gothenburg) - Uddevalla - Strömstad. Coming from Gothenburg it is best to get off at Dingle (2nd stop north of Uddevalla) and take the 875 bus (please check the number) to Fjällbacka. The same could be done from Tanum, but would be a detour from Gothenburg. Some trains don't stop in Dingle, so check the connections beforehand, especially on weekends.

mobility

Map of Fjällbacka

Fjällbacka is easy to explore on foot, but some sights such as Kungsklyftan and the rock plateau above are not barrier-free.

Not barrier-freeNot barrier-free The Kungsklyfta is neither accessible with a walker nor with a stroller, the rock plateau can only be reached via a large number of steep stairs. The Kungsklyfta is also full of countless boulders, the way through it is more strenuous than the stairs to the rock plateau. The ascent from Ingrid Bergmans Torg leads through this gorge - if you have physical or joint problems, you should first go through the whole place and take the stairs from behind, otherwise you will not be able to reach the plateau with the really impressive panoramic view afterwards.
