  • 2 Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve is a Florida State Park located 6 miles northeast of Cedar Key on State Road 24 and has a picnic area, tables, and grills. The vegetation is dominated by species such as sand oak, myrtle oak and Chapman oak as well as Lyonia and saw palmetto. Hikers and off-road cyclists who want to experience a mosaic of Florida's habitats will find it on miles of trails that meander through the park. The shallow water and numerous streams near the salt marshes are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Canoes and kayaks can be rented in the town of Cedar Key.

An important part of the museum is the St. Clair Whitman House. The house depicts life in Cedar Key between 1920 and 1930 and focuses on the life of St. Clair Whitman and his collections of seashells and Indian artifacts. There is a short nature trail next to the museum. The park's wildlife includes gray squirrels, pigeons, mockingbirds, blue jays, woodpeckers, and green tree frogs. The museum is open from Thursday to Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Christmas.
