background
Almost off the entire Atlantic coast of Florida, including off the Gold Coast, there is a narrow, often only a few kilometers wide, spit or chain of islands. A continuous waterway follows inland, the Intracoastal Waterwaybefore the mainland follows.
During the development of Florida, the sometimes extremely opulent holiday complexes were built on the spit and the islands, including on the Intracoastal Waterway. Settlements in the countryside initially served as dwellings for staff, construction workers, etc., which led to a clear social stratification and, in spite of the ongoing real estate boom, still leads in parts. Even today, some areas facing away from the water in Miami, Fort Lauderdales, even West Palm Beach, are at least boring, and occasionally dangerous if you continue to slumber.
Three quarters of the residents of Florida live in a strip of about 20 km parallel to the coast, which is no different in the administrative districts of the Gold Coast. Accordingly, facing away from the sea, one finds extremely thin settlements and extensive swampy marshland.
The music, however, plays on the coast and in this region, well padded with dollars. Some settlements on the Gold Coast, or more precisely their residents, are among the wealthiest in the country. A villa or at least one condo on Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Bal Harbor or Palm Beach is a good form; accordingly there are also expensive hotels or elaborately secured hotels gated communities. According to the well-filled wallets of holidaymakers or retirees, there is a wide range of options for consumption.

On the east coast Interstate 95 (short: I 95), a little more comfortable US Highway 1 (short: US1), which runs practically parallel to I 95. The most varied, but also the slowest way to get there is via Highway 1A1 (1A1 for short). 1A1 runs parallel to US1, but often even closer to the coast or on the offshore islands. The highway leads in parts along picturesque stretches of beach.
