Rome Fiumicino Airport - Flughafen Rom-Fiumicino

Rome Fiumicino Airport

The airport Aeroporte internazionale Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino is 34 km from Rome away. It is the largest Italian airport, and with 36 million passengers in 2010 it is also one of the largest in Europe.

background

Railway station at the airport

The airport has 4 runways and operates 24 hours a day.

getting there

By train

  • The fastest train connection is the Leonardo Express, it starts every half hour at Fiumicino airport and goes without stopping to Termini station, journey time about half an hour. Single trip € 14, cards at the counter or at the machine, possibly also at the newspaper kiosk (then possibly a little more expensive).
  • The line is a little slower and cheaper at € 8 FR1, the train starts at the airport and has stops in Trastevere, Ostiense train station (next to the metro station Piramides), to the Tiburtina train station (next to the metro station Tiburtina), but not to the central Termini train station.
  • It is essential to stamp tickets before departure (or add the expiry date by hand), otherwise there is a € 100 fine

By bus

Incoming buses in the departure area
At the very end in the arrivals area, the long-distance buses are waiting for departure

It is cheaper, but also slower (in Rome there is often traffic jam) to take one of the numerous private buses to Rome, there are connections among other things. to Trastevere, the Vatican or the Termini train station.

  • the Terravision bus to Termini costs € 5 one-way, € 8 there and back and takes about an hour. When traveling from Termini - even if you already have a ticket - you have to "check in" at the Terra Café at the bus stop (on the north side of the train station) and get a boarding pass. According to the company, you should do this at least 30 minutes before departure (there is a café attached where you should still consume), but it is also sufficient to only be there 10 minutes before departure. But be careful: If there is a lot going on and the bus is full, you are unlucky. The Terravision bus only runs every 45 minutes.
  • Long-distance buses; There are different long-distance bus lines, so you can reach Pescara, Ortona or Ancona in a few hours with various stopovers. A ride from the airport to Pescara costs around 25 euros. It is worthwhile to inquire about the routes of the buses in advance, some are in Pescara in 3 hours and only stop a few times on the way, others drive to more stations and thus take over 4 hours and have waiting times. The buses are at the right end of the airport terminal (west), at the bus terminal directly at the exit of the arrivals area.

In the street

From the airport you can take the Autostrada Fiumicino-Roma to get to the ring road A90 and further on A91 in the southern districts of Rome.
