Faraskur, also Fariskur, Arabic:فارسكور‎, Fāraskūr / Fāriskūr, is a city in egyptian Governorate Dumyāṭ in the western Nile Delta with 36,850 inhabitants.[1]. The city is located 15 kilometers southwest of Dumyāṭ on the east side of the arm of the Nile from Damietta.

Of course, the meaning of Fāraskūr does not come close to that of Dumyāṭ / Damietta. But since the city is on the way to el-Manṣūra is obtained in connection with the sixth crusade under the leadership of the French king Louis IX 1249/1250 in importance.

After Damietta was captured without a fight in June 1249, the crusaders penetrated further inland from November 1249 and were able to fight the battle of el-Manṣūra of February 11, 1250 still decide for themselves with great losses. Louis IX and most of his army were captured. For a large ransom and the return of Damietta, the crusaders were able to leave the country on May 8, 1250.

The local handicrafts include carpet and furniture production as well as the blacksmith's trade.

The main attraction of the city is the 1 el-Ḥadīdī Mosque(31 ° 19 ′ 53 ″ N.31 ° 42 ′ 56 "E), Arabic:جامع الحديدي‎, Ǧāmiʿ al-adīdī, in the old town of Fāraskūr. It was founded in 1786 (1200 AH) by the Moroccan Sheikh ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd er-Raḥman el-Ḥadīdī (also ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd er-Raḥman el-Ansarī el-Maghrabī).

The mosque consists of two parts. On the one hand, this is the actual, roughly square mosque with its arcades and, on the other hand, the domed mausoleum of el-Ḥadīdī with the minaret. The restoration work on this mosque was completed in 2009.
