Genthin is a small town in the Elbe-Havel Canal Jerichower Land. Genthin is of Wendish origin and appears as a city as early as 1171.

By train

Genthin is on the long-distance railway from Berlin via Magdeburg to Hanover. RegionalExpress trains from Magdeburg via Berlin stop here every hour Frankfurt (Oder) and vice versa.

In the street

The B 1 runs through Genthin from Magdeburg to Brandenburg. If you want to arrive via the A2, you have to take the exit Symbol: AS 76 Ziesar leave the autobahn and continue on the B 107 (26 km).

Memorial to the 1939 railway accident

At Genthin train station there is a memorial commemorating the Railway disaster of December 22nd, 1939 remind. It was a rear-end collision that resulted in 186 deaths and 106 injuries, making it the worst railway accident in Germany.
