Lake Baikal was originally a large rift of the Earth, shaped like a crescent moon. The lake is nearly 640 km long, more than 80 km wide, Lake Baikal is located entirely in Siberia and is located in the wildest place: nearly 3,200 km west of the Pacific coast, 5,100 km east of Moscow. and 200 km north of the Mongolian border.

How come?

The largest city is Irkutsk located about 70 km northwest of the southern end of Lake Baikal is the most convenient transportation point to move here.
