Hamelin Pyrmont - Hameln-Pyrmont

Hamelin-Pyrmont is a region (Landkreis) in the German state Lower Saxony. The region is named after the two largest cities.

By train

The fastest connection from the Netherlands is with various transfers via Minden and Bad Oeynhausen. The connection is there every hour. From Hanover, which is directly connected to Amsterdam every two hours via Hengelo, there is an hourly S-Bahn service to Hameln. Train connections from all over Europe to these stations can be found on the travel planner of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (also in Dutch).

Through this region runs the European walking route E11. This route runs from the Hague to the east, currently the border Poland/Lithuania. The route can be partly found in this region on internet and comes from Porta Westfalica from the region Minden-Lübbecke over a ridge like Weserberglandweg in the center of Hamelin. The route continues for a bit through open hill country to Coppenbrugge, after which the route continues over the ridge southwards from the Ith Mountains, and at the end eastwards over the Hils to Alfeld, in the region Hildesheim. there are no facilities in the Ith, there is one mountain café in the Hils that turned out to be closed on a Saturday afternoon in October 2008. It is possible to spend the night in Salzhemmendorf, and there are shops in Lauenstein.
