Hamilton is about 140 km south of Auckland in the region Waikato on the North islandNew Zealand. The university city is usually left behind by tourists, as it can hardly keep up with other highlights of the country. But if you have a few hours to spare, the pretty Hamilton offers one or the other entertaining change.

Regardless of whether you are traveling by car, train or bus, as soon as you want to drive south from Auckland you almost inevitably pass Hamilton. The city is located on the Overlander route, the only train connection on the North Island, and on the SH1, the road from Auckland to Wellington.
