Taupo is a city in the region Waikato.

The city of Taupo is located on the northern edge of Lake Taupo. This emerged from the caldera of a volcano that erupted around 24,000 years ago. The lake has an area of 616 km² and is known by anglers for its wealth of eels and trout.
