Herborn is a city of short distances. Located in the heart of Hesse, the romantic city at the foot of the Westerwald is only about 1 hour by car from the Rhine-Main area and about 1.5 hours by car from the Ruhr area and Thuringia.

If you want to do sports, you can do this, for. B. in two heated outdoor pools, bowling center, riding arena, tennis facilities, paragliding, canoeing, gliding, cycling (we are on the R8 long-distance cycle path!) Hiking or Nordic walking. The cultural life is rounded off by numerous attractive festivals, markets, exhibitions and theater performances (culture barn).

Hiking is of course a main topic for us. With over 300 km of marked hiking trails around Herborn, there are many options for hikers. You can also walk the premium hiking trails Lahn-Dill-Berglandpfad (Herborn / Dillenburg-Marburg) or the Westerwaldsteig (Herborn - Bad Hönningen am Rhein) directly with the Rheinsteig and connect the Rothaarsteig.

The atmospheric pedestrian zone with a large number of well-stocked shops and lovingly managed boutiques invites you to go shopping. Here the customer will still find owner-managed shops that are not among the well-known chains that exist everywhere. Individual advice and a balanced range - that is still a matter of course in Herborn.

A special attraction is the weekly market, which animates the Kornmarkt and Holzmarkt areas every Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Many guests use the rich offer to stock up on specialties, fish, sausage, cheese, honey, fruit and vegetables and of course flowers. The goose "Frieda" is particularly popular. She insists on personally checking egg sales and keeping a watchful eye on "her" stand. It is now one of the most popular photo opportunities in Herborn.

There is a larger shopping center with the retail park "In der Au", near Vitos Klinik, easily accessible from the Herborn-Süd motorway exit. In addition, a variety of markets and shopping opportunities throughout the city and the districts.

In the Uckersdorf district you can have a chat with lively parrots and watch storks rearing their young. In the idyllic zoo (formerly bird park) over 90 bird and other animal species from all over the world live in natural enclosures and aviaries, e.g. B. a biotope for the pink flamingos.
