Urban centers

  • Aviemore - About forty km south of Inverness, the village of Aviemore has many hotels available to visitors to the neighbor Cairngorms National Park.
  • Campbeltown - City overlooking the loch of the same name.
  • Dunoon - From Glasgow it can be visited in one day by either a scheduled ferry or a steamboat that can be booked at a local agency.
  • Fort William - Located at the bottom of Loch Linnhe, a deep fjord that juts out to Mulle Island, Fort Williams is at the end of the road coming from Inverness which borders the shores of Loch Ness, the most famous of the Scottish lochs.
  • Inveraray - Located on the west coast of Loch Fyne, on the A83, it is the capital of the historic region of Argyll and the residence of the Duke of Argyll.
  • Inverness - is considered the most convenient base for exploring the Scottish Highlands.
  • John o 'Groats - The furthest point in the north of Great Britain.
  • Mallaig - 50 km north of Fort Williams, at the terminus of a railway line crossed by trains from London--Euston and Glasgow. Mallaig is a tiny port where you can embark for the nearby island of Skye and to the much smaller one of Rum, the most spectacular of the said group Small Islands or also Inner Hebrides (Inner Hebrides). The small islands form a kind of wake south of Skye.
  • Oban - Passenger stop with frequent maritime connections forIsle of Mull, the closest to the mainland, and the furthest away Coll is Tiree.
  • Thurso - A fairly inhabited center at the eastern end of the deserted northern coast which from Thurso can be easily visited.
  • Ullapool - Much appreciated for the beauty of the landscapes witnessed by a large tourist presence during the summer.

On the train

  • From London - There are sleeper night trains departing from Euston Station.
  • From Glasgow - There is West Highland line, which is the name of the railway line it connects Glasgow to Mallaig. It is spectacular for the landscapes that unfold before your eyes.
