The center of Inverness extends on the right bank of the River Ness, the outlet of Loch Ness which just after Inverness flows into the waters of the Moray Firth, a gulf of the North Sea that deeply affects the north east coast of Scotland.

Loch Ness - Just outside the city, in Tomnahurich you can embark on one of the boats that make excursions on the famous Loch. For the first 8 km you cross the waters of the Caledonian Canal after which you enter the lake itself. It may be more convenient to contact one of the agencies in the city that organize mini-cruises on the lake, providing with their own coaches for the transfer from the center to the mooring point of the boats. We mention one, the Jacobite.
The cheapest solution remains to use the extra-urban bus lines; for example to get on a bus of the Citylink directed to Fort Williams and get off half an hour after a Drumnadrochit where, if desired, you can embark to return to Inverness. Other points to get off are Invermoriston at the mouth of the Moriston river valley, the Loch Ness tributary, nearby Alltsigh with a hostel (Loch Ness Youth Hostel) and Urquhart Castle [2] (close Drumnadrochit). Urquhart offers the most spectacular views over Loch Ness. A visitor center has been set up with restaurants, souvenir shops and rooms with video projections.
- Nairn - 20 km from Inverness, along the road to Elgin is Aberdeen meet Nairn, a coastal resort with a beautiful beach and tourist infrastructure. It can also be reached with the buses of the Rapsons Highland
