history
The first settlements in the municipality came from the Germans and Romans. Himberg itself is first mentioned around 1100 AD in connection with the battle on the Lechfeld in 955 against the Hungarians, when the region went to the Babenberg margraves. Himberg was raised to an independent parish around 1320 and received market rights in 1365. During the Turkish sieges of Vienna in 1529 and 1683, the castle was completely destroyed and the town was largely destroyed. As compensation, the place was given market freedom and toll privileges.
n the 19th century began, also favored by the opening of the Raaber Ostbahn (Vienna-Győr), the industrialization and the agricultural community was transformed. In 1938, Himberg was incorporated into Greater Vienna by the National Socialists (part of the 23rd district, Schwechat) and removed again in 1954. In the 1970s, the municipality of Himberg was voluntarily amalgamated with Velm as well as a merger with Pellendorf, which was ordered by the federal state.
In the recent past Himberg, which is only about 20 km south of Vienna, has become a popular suburbanization community. Himberg, which is currently still administered in the Vienna-Umgebung district, will become part of the Bruck an der Leitha district from 2017.
