Hokianga is the area surrounding the natural harbor Hokianga Harbor in Northland.

Regions and places

The Hokianga Harbor is a bay in Far North District, it extends around 30 km inland on the west coast and is also called inland Waihou River. Numerous smaller towns are distributed around this bay, this is on the northern bank Kohukohu, lie on the south side Omapere, Opononi, Rawene and Horeke.

Of Dargaville the SH 12 runs through the Waipoua Forest to Oponoi, the road continues inland Kaikohe. Of Kaitaia here one drives over Herekino and Broadwood to Kohukohu, there you can take a car ferry to get there Rawene.
