Holzwickede is a parish in the district Unna on the eastern edge of the Ruhr area.
background
The community's slogan is "Emscher and much more ..." and refers to the Emscher spring in Holzwickede. The ridge of the Ardey Mountains runs through the local area, on the southern edge lies the Dysentery. Holzwickede itself is in the north, the districts of Hengsen and Opherdicke (pronounce Op-Herdicke) to the south-west and south-east.

By plane
The nearest airport is the one directly on the northern municipal border Dortmund Airport. It can be reached on foot. There is also a shuttle bus from Holzwickede train station to the airport every 20 minutes (journey time 25 minutes to DO Hbf, price € 5, Timetable).
In the district of Hengsen is the Hengsen-Opherdicke glider airfield, there it flies Air sports club Unna-Schwerte.
By train

The community is connected by bus with Unna, Fröndenberg / Ruhr and Dortmund. - The Emscher rises in the Hixterwald on the so-called Emscherquellhof (Quellenstrasse 2). The "Lünschermannhof", built in 1801, is a typical Westhellweghof with half-timbered houses, main and bakery, barn and stables. It was operated as a private riding stable until 2003 and then lovingly restored by the Emschergenossenschaft so that it is now used for training courses and exhibitions. The sources of the Emscher collect in a pond in the inner courtyard, where around 50 liters of water bubble up every minute.
- The farm is open from May to August, every 2nd Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours are possible by prior arrangement (email [email protected] or phone 49 (0) 2301/919817): Mon-Fri 10: 00-17: 00. The exhibition is housed in the rooms of the main house and deals with the history of the farm (including renovation) and everyday life on the farm as well as the Emscher conversion project. The platform at the source pond is continuously accessible, there are information boards and "water words" (lyrical quotes on the subject of water).
