Hope is a small town in the agricultural region of Lower Mainland in British Columbia to Canada. It is known as the gateway to the interior of the province and for being located at the crossroads of four main roads. This is a great place for outdoor activities.

Understand

Although, for many people, Hope is just a place to stop to refuel and order a coffee, it is definitely an all-season destination as it is located among majestic peaks at the confluence of three rivers and thus offers magnificent landscapes. Thus, it offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, fishing, hunting and all kinds of water sports.

Story

The original inhabitants of the region are the Sto: lo First Nations. Explorer Simon Fraser arrived here in 1808 and the Hudson's Bay Company opened a trading post there in 1848. The Gold Rush in 1858 transformed the place as thousands of minors came to settle there. It is in this context that the colony of British Columbia was created by the government. British, the August 2, 1858, to establish British control in the face of the massive arrival of prospectors american. The colony joined the Canada in 1871 after the Canadian government promised to build a railway connecting it to the east of the country. This railway passed through Hope. Hope incorporated as a village (district) the April 6, 1929 and became a city (town) the 1er January 1965. By car

Highway 1, that is to say Trans-Canada Highway, allows you to join Hope from Vancouver to the west and from Cache Creek, then, Kamloops and the rest of the Canada to the East. This is connected to Route 97 which connects the Northern British Columbia and the Yukon.

Highway 3, the Crowsnest Highway, connects Hope to Manning Park, To Princeton, To Osoyoos and, ultimately, toAlberta.

Highway 5, that is to say yellowhead road, connects Hope to Merritt then to Kamloops and at Northern British Columbia.

Highway 7, that is to say the Lougheed road, connect Mission, Coquitlam and eventually Vancouver West. Via this road, the trip from Vancouver is longer, but still scenic.

By plane

The nearest major international airport to Hope is that of Vancouver To 155 km West. International airportAbbotsford located closer to 70 km to the west, but it offers fewer flights.

By bus

Hope is served by Greyhound. Note that not all coaches that pass through Hope make a stop there. It is therefore important to be clear that you want to stop in Hope when purchasing your ticket.

By train

The train is no longer a popular means of transport in theWestern Canada, but there is still a VIA Rail on-demand stop called Haig just across the Fraser River in front of Hope.
