Hornell is a small town in Steuben County in the US state new York northwest of Corning.

Hornell has a lovely Main Street and two small museums.

background

The current place Hornell was settled since 1790 under the name "Upper Canisteo". In 1820 the area was declared a town under the name "Hornellsville". It was named after an early settler family who ran a flour mill here. In 1888 "Hornellsville" received the rank of city. In 1906 the name was changed to "Hornell".

Since Main Street and Broadway are beautifully lined with maple trees, the city is also nicknamed "Maple City". The largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the region is celebrated in Hornell every year.
