medium

  • Simon's, 2 Hanover Square. Tel.: 1 796-5888. Hibachi restaurant (Japanese steakhouse). Guests are grouped at U-shaped tables for random parties. In the middle, on a large, hot metal plate, the cook - literally juggling the ingredients and utensils - prepares the ordered dishes. Quite noisy, and the most fun local gastronomy has to offer. The scallops and filet mignon are excellent. The place is very popular and mostly overcrowded, especially on weekends; if you don't have a table reservation, you should come either very early or very late. High chairs and child menu available, but not a particularly good address because of the high noise level for small children. If you can't get a seat, you can move to the left part of the restaurant. Sushi and other nifty little things are served there.Price: Main courses between $ 12 and $ 28 (the more expensive, the more components, i.e. the larger the servings).
  • Tonino Ristorante Italiano, 1-3 Old Ithaca Rd. Italian restaurant on the edge of Hanover Square. Very popular, especially among the older generation, but you don't eat any better here than in the Olive Garden. Pasta, pizza, steaks, seafood, poultry, salads. Extensive children's menu.
  • Tuna II, 1900 Grand Central Ave. South of Hwy 17 is the small sushi bar Tuna II, which opened in November 2005. It has been the sixth restaurant to move into here since 2000, and more than any other restaurant deserves to be preserved forever: from a culinary point of view, there is there is nothing better in the Corning-Elmira Area! There is a wide selection on the menu, among other things. of sashimi, sushi, tempura and noodle dishes. Chef Lui "Joel" Ho looks back on 18 years of professional experience in Japanese restaurants in Tokyo and Hong Kong and only works with fresh ingredients, which seems like a miracle in the American provinces, where everything unusual is difficult to find. In Japanese cuisine, nothing beats the absolute freshness of the ingredients. While you might gobble your food elsewhere, the Tuna II is the place to let every single one of the highly decorative pieces melt blissfully on your tongue. Sushi (2 pieces each) cost $ 2.50 à la carte, a combo with 18 pieces just under $ 30. The interior is rather inconspicuous, but that's also the case in Tokyo restaurants. The sister company "Tuna I" is also based in Manhattan.Open: Mon - Thu 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., Fri Sat 11 a.m. - 10.30 p.m., Sun 12 p.m. - 9.30 p.m.
