Chemung County is a county in the Southern tier of the US state new York.
The region is of little interest to most tourists. The city Elmira and the places Horseheads and Big flats however, offer some worth seeing museums (art, gliding, war planes), restaurants and shopping.
A visit to Elmira is also a must for fans of the writer Mark Twain.

The county is conveniently located on Interstate Highway 86, which is accessible when traveling from New York City off to the Niagara Falls Is on the way. The county has an airport Elmira / Corning Regional Airportwho, inter alia. of Detroit and Philadelphia is approached. The nearest Amtrak train stations are in Syracuse (149 km) and Rochester (192 km). The bus company offers a relatively fast and direct connection from New York City to Elmira Greyhound.

Security in Chemung County is generally high. However, Elmira city center is pretty deserted at night and can be a little scary.
