The Finger Lakes (German: Fingerseen) are a major travel destination in the northwest of the US state new York. The number of Finger Lakes that emerged as drains from a former glacier is actually 11, but usually only the 9 largest of them are identified as "Finger Lakes". The two longest lakes, Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake, are also among the deepest in the country.
Apart from the lakes, the landscape is characterized by seemingly endless ridges of hills. The Finger Lakes are of great agricultural importance to New York State; In addition to the dairy industry, the production of maple syrup and honey, viticulture flourishes here. Wineries like Dr. Constantine Frank, Heron Hill and Glenora are among the most famous in the country.
