Hpa-an(Burmese: ဘားအံမြို့) is the capital of Kayin State in Myanmar.

Hardly anyone will take the detour from the main tourist routes because of the city itself. Due to the many possibilities that the beautiful landscape has to offer, Hpa-an is one of the country's insider tips, so that you will surely meet some like-minded people at the night market and at the tourist attractions during the main travel season. The mass rush, as seen e.g. from Inle Lake knows, but you will not find it here.

In the street
The Asian Highway 1 connects the city with Myawaddy. This is where the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge 1 is located with an official border crossing between the two states Mae Sot (Thailand). In a westerly direction, the AH 1 continues over Thaton and Bago to Yangon. This road is passable throughout, but a military presence is to be expected near the border (as of 11/2017).
Buses connect the city with Yangon (8-9 hours, departure early in the morning), Bago (7 hours, departure around 04:00 and 05:00), Mawlamyine and Thaton.
By boat
There is a regular boat connection with Mawlamyine. The departure there is 7:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Many accommodations rent out two-wheelers themselves or refer to the next best supplier. All places of interest are easily accessible by scooter, and much can also be explored by bike.

If you want to be comfortable, you can book tours through the accommodation. With a little planning, most sights can be viewed on your own in two to three days.
- Kyaaukkan Latt Pagoda- The pagoda is about 15 kilometers from the center of the city. You can easily get there in 10 minutes by tuk-tuk or moped taxi (MYK 15,000 / day). Surely the guest house can organize a trip. - (GPS: 16 ° 49 ′ 6 ″ N.97 ° 38 '25 "E)
- Shwe Gabin Monastery- The monastery is located on a 700 meter high karst mountain with a beautiful view. The hike begins about 10 km from Hpa-an and takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Once at the top, you can watch a monkey feeding at 11 a.m. The popular overnight stays at the summit are hardly possible any more.
- Tharmanya monastery- The monastery is about 35 kilometers east of Hpa-an.
