Hünxe is a parish in the district Wesel. She belongs to Ruhr area and to Lower Rhine region, large parts of their area also for Hohe Mark Nature Park.

Already in 1092 the place was mentioned as "de Hungese". Today's community was formed during the local reorganization in 1975, and since then Hünxe has also been part of the then newly formed Wesel district. Hünxe consists of the districts of Hünxe, Bruckhausen, Bucholtwelmen, Drevenack, Gartrop-Bühl and Krudenburg. The Lippe partially forms the municipal boundary, Krudenburg was once a towing village on the then navigable river. The Wesel-Datteln Canal also goes through Hünxe in a west-east direction and has the "Hünxe" lock here.
