The airport is located a few kilometers east of the city. Scheduled flights arrive at this airport from Athens, Thessaloniki. Santorini, Rhodes and Larnaca. In the summer months there are more flights and it is busier here with large numbers of charters from all parts of Europe.

- knossos - A few kilometers south of town is this archaeological site, Knossos is considered the legendary palace of King Minos, known as Labyrinth because of its intricate floor plan, in the legend of the Minotaur. By Sir Arthur Evans, Knossos was excavated in the early 1800's and partially reconstructed to his liking.
