What see

Blue Cave

Gardens of Augustus
  • Main attraction1 Blue Cave (10 minutes by boat from Marina Grande. The best time to enjoy the reflections is from 12 to 14), 39 081 8375646. Ecb copyright.svg14 €. Simple icon time.svg9-17. Stay inside 5 minutes. The cave has an opening partially submerged by the sea, from which the external light filters which - in this way - creates an intense blue shade of color, which represents the peculiar characteristic of the cave. The blue color of the cave is due to the presence of the underwater threshold (which opens exactly under the entrance) through which the light penetrates. The underwater window acts as a filter, absorbing the red colors and letting the blue ones pass through. Curious to note that, due to the phenomenon of total reflection, the threshold fails to illuminate the cave if the sea is completely calm - so there is a need for a movement of the water, however minimal this may be.
  • 2 Faraglioni. They are three rocky peaks (Di Terra, di Mezzo, di Fuori) positioned to the south-east of the homonymous island, famous all over the world thanks to the suggestive and historical panorama offered by the gardens of Augustus.
  • 3 Gardens of Augustus (From the Piazzetta of Capri, take via Vittorio Emanuele, Via Federico Serena and then via Matteotti.). Ecb copyright.svgFrom Easter to early November: € 1. Simple icon time.svg9-19,30. They are a city park in Capri. They were started by Friedrich Alfred Krupp, the German steel industrialist who at the beginning of the 20th century bought some properties on the island, with the intention - which was not realized - to build a villa there. Known as Krupp gardens until 1918, after the First World War they were renamed gardens of Augustus by the municipal administration, in honor of the first Roman emperor. They constitute a real botanical garden that houses various specimens of the island's flora, with ornamental and non-ornamental plants. The botanical beauties are associated with a very wide panorama of the main landscape beauties of the island; from them, in fact, it is possible to obtain a 180-degree panoramic view of the island of Capri: in fact from them it is possible to see Mount Solaro, the bay of Marina Piccola, via Krupp and the famous Faraglioni.
