Tourist Attractions

The Jenbach train station with Achensee- and Zillertalbahn is of interest to friends of historical trains. As a technical uniqueness, three gauges meet at Jenbach station.

  • Inntalbahn. The normal psurige Inntalbahn of the ÖBB with 1435 mm.
  • Zillertal Railway. The Zillertalbahn is a privately operated narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 760 mm. The railway leads from Jenbach at the entrance to the Zillertal (530 m) over a distance of 31 km Mayrhofen (627 m). It was built from 1899 to 1902 to transport wood and for magnesite mining in Tux from 1928 onwards. Today it is mainly used for tourist purposes, as a "morning steam train" and as a "afternoon steam train" with a historic locomotive.
  • Achenseebahn. The Achenseebahn is a narrow-gauge rack railway (gauge 1000 mm) and runs over a 7 km route with a maximum gradient of up to 16% from Jenbach station Just and Maurach to the bank of the Achensee (931 m), here with a connection to the Achensee shipping. The Achenseebahn is the oldest exclusively steam-powered rack railway in Europe.

Tratzberg Castle

A first fortified castle in the exposed position above the valley floor of the Inn Valley was mentioned in a document in the 13th century and served as a border fortress against Bavaria. After a fire and complete destruction of the castle in 1490/91, the oldest and still late Gothic part of today's castle was built in 1500.

The palace complex underwent multiple changes of ownership and various other construction phases, the palace is particularly worth seeing because of the overall condition that has been completely preserved in its historical state, that is, the rooms in the original splendid interior design such as armory, Habsburg hall, palace chapel and the Renaissance courtyard its distinctive arcades.

The castle is now privately owned (Tratzberg Castle Family Foundation).
